Hello, I'm Cathy, a qualified Integrative Counsellor based in Basingstoke. I'm dedicated to supporting individuals to improve their emotional well-being and achieve personal growth. As a counsellor, I combine my professional training with insights gained from over 16 years of experience in education. This background enhances my ability to understand and support clients of all ages.
My counselling journey began while studying drama at university, where I explored the positive impact of creative approaches on young people's mental health. This experience ignited a lifelong passion that guided me into a career in education and ultimately into counselling.
Through my training and employment, I have gained valuable experience in various settings, including clinical placements at youth and adult counselling agencies, as well as pastoral roles in educational settings. This diverse background has allowed me to work closely with people of all ages and backgrounds, expanding my knowledge, skills, and professional competence. My work in educational settings has significantly informed my counselling practice, enriching my understanding and equipping me with the skills and expertise necessary for my growth as a counsellor.
Currently, I work in education as an Infant School ELSA, helping children develop emotional awareness and well-being while collaborating with safeguarding teams and supporting families. More recently, I have taken on the role of youth counsellor at YPI, a charity that supports young people aged 11-25, and I also collaborate with Victoria's Promise, a charity dedicated to helping women and their families affected by cancer. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to work alongside external agencies such as CAMHS, Children's Services, and The Family Support Service, further enhancing my ability to support clients with complex needs.
In November 2023, I established my private practice, offering individual counselling to clients of all ages. I work with a diverse range of clients, including children, adolescents, and adults, addressing various challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, and low self-esteem. My integrative approach allows me to draw from different therapeutic models, tailoring the counselling experience to meet your unique needs. I am deeply committed to fostering a collaborative and empathetic therapeutic relationship, respecting your individuality, and supporting you in achieving your goals and improving your well-being.
In my practice, I strive to provide a non-judgemental, empathetic, and supportive environment where you can feel heard and understood.
I am committed to maintaining the highest professional standards in my practice. My qualifications include:
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to their ethical framework and professional guidelines. I'm also committed to ongoing professional development to ensure I can provide the best possible support to my clients.
